Steve Sperguenzie is a weird character. He could be our primary rock projection, directly materialized by a sixties vinyl psychedelic cover. He is the physical mix, maybe someting more than that, between Roger Daltrey and Mick Jagger, included blonde long hair.
To watch him moving among his "incredible lysergic ants" is a carrying experience, a hot shiver caused by the crazy old time machine, which nobody (included Steve himself) dares to believe, but Steve 's California dreamin' starts in Tuscany in the millenium.
It is easier for us, when he is on stage, talking about his sunny San Diego; his ants and himself, probably hibernated 30 years ago, like Capitan America, and carried by the tides on the Italian Tuscanian coast,then Steve and mates, attitudes and clothes faithful to the magical revival representation, give us an impressive series of hit in beat-garage-rock'n roll- style with strong psychedelic vibes.
"Cosmic war" and "Mambo Jumbo" , together with other pices, are their own compostitons, and they have a wonderful sound competence.
The result is irrestistible, it goes on for more than two hours with no interruptions, sometimes hallucinogenic and tribal like in the best rock rituales. "Yes the river knows" starts Steve imitating the sexiest Jim Morrison: a slow break the let's start the dance. Passion, energy, fun. We wish good luck to Steve, wherever is his California.
What has to enter in your compact disk is this mini CD with six episodes, with whom the Tuscanian quintet (to their second try in digital, after the EP "The bright rump of the toad" of 1997), reached unusual levels of quality, imposing like a first star in the framework of a very usedstyle such as a 60's rock'n roll, (here read again in a revival way, even though the record doesnot seem to find vintage solutions). Even if they imitate the Decca period of the Stones, the American garage celebrated by Nuggets, the band enlightens excellentcomposing and interpretative abilities, with a melodic sound which is very clear and lympid - though energetic- where the great Steve has the chance to show his vocal charism, which comes out especially in "The beat party"
