Nowadays it’s hard to find anything that is truly original. Every new film is a remake of an old one, every person is trying to be someone else, and every band wants to sound like one that has come before them. It seems like there is no room for improvement. But there is…
Fillmore Jive isn’t about being average. We like to do things our own way, without looking for the approval of others. Right now the world revolves around fitting in, and ultimately being mediocre; we enjoy being different. Our pure love of music has taught us what good music should be, the problem is, there isn’t enough of this music out there, and most of the people on the planet haven’t heard what we consider great music. We are trying to change that. We want to improve music the way our favorite bands have, but we want to make more of an impact; we want to be known by everyone, we won’t accept being ignored. So who is Fillmore Jive?
Fillmore Jive is a psychedelic/alternative/garage rock band from New Castle Pennsylvania. The band was founded in the March of 2009 by two local musicians: drummer Gina Kantner, and singer/songwriter/guitarist Kevon Braun. The two musicians had been playing with each other for years covering songs by famous acts such as Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but chose to start writing their own songs because of the poor quality of the local music community. Influenced by modern day psychedelic acts such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Dandy Warhols, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre; as well as classic rock acts such as Neil Young, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, Fillmore Jive play loud fast psychedelic sounds with poppy vocals and catch riffs. The band is a good combination of classic rock and modern day psychedelic/experimental music creating a unique but familiar sound.
After two months of playing together Fillmore Jive had enough material to record a six song demo, Rock Bottom and began playing live shows. During the band’s first shows they were met with confused opposition from other bands, local music fans, and club promoters, but soon the band’s strong live performance changed people’s minds. Now the band is trying to promote their demo as well as gain an even larger fan base by playing as many shows as possible in the Cleveland, Youngstown and Pittsburgh areas. To ensure success the band plans on promoting shows by making many flyers and putting them up at local coffee shops, music stores, and schools around each venue they play at, promote the show on music related websites, and send out press releases to local press. Fillmore Jive wants you to help them accomplish their goals of making music and entertainment better by letting them perform at your establishment. Please make the right choice.
