David Max, the current guitarist for legendary psych band PSYCHIC TV, has completed his first solo album of music entitled, 'Simple Psychedelic Pleasures'. SPP is 13 songs including 3 covers that have been written over the last several years in between recording and touring with Psychic TV and his previous band, HIT.
Before relocating to Basel, Switzerland and the final days of MicroRiot Music Studios (Jersey City), recording began on SPP. MicroRiot was the home base for David and his long time musical collaborative team, including Nick Kramer and Adam Boyette. Psychic TV, Sonic Boom, Dean & Britta, Cheval Sombre and Cupids are just a few of the bands that recorded projects with David and Nick at MicroRiot.
Psychic TV/PTV3's first album, Hell is Invisible, Heaven is Her/e (2005), was recorded there. David wrote music and produced tracks for the album, including the Lady Jaye spoken word, 'I'm Making a Mirror', which was also released on PTV3's follow up, Mr. Alien Brain vs. the Skinwalkers (2007). The record also has other contributions from David including 'The Thin Garden' and 'Trussed'. Most recently a composition co-written by David, along with Nick, Adam and the electro group Sweden has been released as part of the Andy Warhol Museum compilation, Thirteen Most Beautiful, Songs for Andy Warhols Screen Tests.. Dean & Britta re-recorded it to be played over Edie Segdwicks screen test. Entitled 'It Don't Rain In Beverly Hills', it has lyrics and vocal melody penned by Jack Early. Available at deanandbritta.com The recording of Simple Psychedelic Pleasures continued in Davids home studio in Switzerland, beginning in June 2007 and finishing October 2008. Appearing on SPP is former HIT/Tadpoles drummer Adam Boyette. Adam drums on 11 tracks. Electric Eddie O'dowd, current drummer and producer of Psychic TV, drums on 2 tracks.
