SIXTIES CHILD came from a musical family which enabled him to start playing live on drums (in a sixties/country covers band) at the age of ten. In the years that followed he and his brother went on to form a songwriting partnership called 'THE KIND' and set about recording their own home demos. These early sessions soon caught the eye of local radio and their debut single 'A girl named Karen' quickly became the most requested song in the prime time show. Along with regular live performances The Kind were also working with an LA based management company who dealt mostly with tv/film work and their songs were soon to be shortlisted for BAYWATCH and other mostly film projects. During this time The Kind only officially released one album, 'GAUTAMA' which was an experimental journey through many of their own influences and tastes in music. Most of the album was recorded and produced by themselves at their home studio but three of the songs were recorded by renound producer/musician GARETH YOUNG. Following this SC took time out to work with an amateur film making company with whom he co-wrote/directed four films in the comedy genre. This film work also included writing/recording various pieces of music, one of which was the BARRY WHITE song which would later be re-recorded for the COOL FM album. He is presently writing/recording his second album 'WATERSHED TV' inbetween producing other artistes.
'Frank Zappa' meets ' Dark side of the moon' is how 'COOL FM' has been described. After many years gigging and writing songs for publishing and various TV/FILM projects, Sixties Child has now released his own independant debut album ‘COOL FM’, which first came to life after he wrote the opening song 'SLICK the DJ' which was loosely based on his own experiences whilst doing interveiws and live acoustic sessions at various stations, although he admits that the 'Slick' character was blown out of all proportion for the purposes of the song. The album plays like a slightly surreal radio show being broadcast from a 'pirate space station' and is hosted by the giant ego of Slick. The songs and dj parts were all written, performed and produced by Sixties Child who describes his music as ' a bit like watershed tv'.It features nine tracks from the topical live lounge performance of 'THE KARAOKE KID' to the infectious 'TALKING TO THE MOON' all linked together by the comical ramblings of Slick the dj.
The RADIO SHOW parts of the album were loosely based on the likes of 'Kenny Everette', 'Max Headroom' and other main stream radio dj's. On the musical side the albums blend of topical humour and catchy tunes is proving popular with all ages and a huge range of musical influences aswell as the desire to 'toy' with the usual album format has all gone toward making this quite a unique and original album which has the 'theme like' qualities of the sixties psychodelic scene with a topical commercial vein running through it. The album also recently saw SC through to the finals of the GLASSWERK NEW MUSIC AWARDS in the BEST ALBUM catagory which was held in London.COOL FM is the first in a trilogy of albums which will all take on the theme of a different medium. His second album 'WATERSHED TV' is presently in the writing/recording stage, due for release in mid 2008 it has already been quoted as 'hilarious, inventive and highly addictive' and all wrapped up in a brainwashing TV theme! We'll have to get Slick to reveiw it when it's released!!!!!!
