Tom Alford's second solo release, 'Second Foundation' follows up 'Desire Caught By The Tail' albeit with a gap of fifteen years! Tom's musical scope encompasses a number of styles which present themselves to the listener during the course of this collection of finely crafted songs.
'Yes It's You' kicks things off with it's brisk pace, snappy rythmn and superfast rockabilly style guitar runs, so that your attention is well and truly grabbed from the outset. 'Boy In The Bubble', 'Ever Question Why', and 'Shiloh' are all perfect examples of crystal clear and sharply executed pop songs and there are more where these came from. 'Wasp Lands On Sunflower' has faint suggestions of Love that bubble underneath some melodic twists and turns and more of Tom's neat and speedy guitar runs. Album closer 'Strawberry Robot' mixes fine melodic pop sensibilities with a sprinkling of psychedelic fairy dust to make for a memorable finale.
All in all, this second release from Tom shows how good he is at composing well crafted accessable music whilst using clever melodic motifs and less than obvious key changes to keep your attention. This is a very worthwhile release that never drops in quality from start to finish, get hold of a copy now!
