Spain's Sex Museum have been around since 1985 and 'Fifteen Hits That Never Were' is a compilation of their best work. Their sound is based on garage punk but have a heavy Deep Purple Hammond organ grind on some tracks like 'I Won't Go Back'. They rock hard but remain more accessable than most 'heavy' bands.
Album opener 'I've Lost My Faith' is a full on hard riffing number that opens the album perfectly, and sets the tone for what's to follow, lots of muscular riffs and hard hitting drums. 'Something For Real' is a slow burn number that starts off slowly and builds into a hard and heavy rocker. 'I Enjoy The Forbidden' speeds off with a cool riff propelling it along and builds nicely in the middle section before dropping back into a verse that builds and builds into another chorus; a sharply arranged and very commercial number.
The album shows that the band's sound has progressed over the period of their existance, but is essentially based on tight, hard riffing, energetic rock. They make an enjoyable noise and although their influences are plain to see when listening, they have their own take on the classic 'Purple' sound and utilise it in their own way to keep you interested in what they are doing. Sex Museum play with a certain economy and arrange their songs well and are thoroughly enjoyable to boot!
